So, after my ordeal with the changing of the tire, I didn't get home until after 8 pm. So my movie plans were shot. Turns out, "Speed Racer" was really uneven- some good stuff, some bad stuff, according to my friend. So, I'll go see something else.
However, Saturday I took the car in to have the tire patched, and it turns out the puncture was on the side of the tire and therefore couldn't be patched. So I had to buy two new tires. That's $ 170 I wasn't planning on spending. Well, fuck me.
That made me frustrated and soured my mood a bit. I almost didn't go to the Northern State/Dollyrots/Killola show at the Knitting Factory. Luckily I did go, because they added The Trucks to the show and it turned out to be one hell of a fun time. Four really fun bands turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. The show made me feel better.
There's been some other stuff but I'm too spent to bother with it right now. And here we are at the end of another Monday. I'm just glad it's over.
See ya tomorrow, folks.

Sometimes life decides to fuck with you when you least want it to. I go up to my car to go home, and my rear right tire is flat. Like, cartoon flat. So, I have take off the tire. That goes fine until I try to actually remove it. it's stuck on tight. I mean fused on like it was welded. I haven't had to remove it since I bought the car so maybe it's just some contact rust or something, but damn that thing is holding on. And I don't have a hammer or a crowbar to help, so I had to fucking call Acura. they're sending a guy, which is so stupid. I feel like an eedjit. He'll have a hammer or something and in two seconds the tire will be off. It's gonna take him a half hour to get here and I was supposed to be up in Sherman Oaks to see Speed Racer at 8:30 pm.
It ain't gonna happen.
The Universe has a way of kicking you when you least expect it. And then it runs off snickering at you from a distance.
So, how' s everyone else's Friday evening? : )
It's another wonderful Friday! I'm off to a party at work- someone is retiring. All I know is I'll be leaving early. Woo hoo!
And tonight is Speed Racer! Let's see if it lives up to the trailers. I'm not expecting an award winner here, just a fun two hours of silliness and eye candy. Isn't that what Hollywood does best? How disappointed could I be? : )
Then the Dollyrots and Killola show at the Knitting Factory tomorrow night.
Chock full o'love for all of you fine people. Remember: Be yourself, everyone else is already taken. : )

Well, I hope everyone had/is having a fine Cinco De Mayo. Be careful of bullets dropping out of the sky. : )
Well, "Iron Man" kicked ass. Lots of fun. Now I await "Speed Racer"! That thing looks insane.
Went to the orthopaedist this morning and whether I have surgery on my knee is pretty much up to me and how much I think the pain will affect my life. It's not bad now, but I'll see what the next few weeks bring. Maybe I'll have it done, maybe not.
Received the book of poetry I was published in. Kinda weird seeing my words in a printed book - on the first page, even.
Here's to a new week.
Cheers,
~ Neil
I already have my ticket for tonight at 12:30 am at the Arclight. I can't fucking wait! And this looks like a great fucking summer for movies. There's SO much I want to see! You can even check out my preview of the summer movies at, that's right, ComedyFilmNerdsDotCom.com. Yep, I'm a whore. : )
I am feeling pretty damn good today, despite that I have an appointment with my orthopaedist in about an hour. We'll see if surgery on my knee is needed or if I can avoid it.
I'm off tomorrow, that makes me awfully happy. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! And if I haven't said it lately, I love all of you. You're chock full o'awesome! : )
Big love,
Neil OXOX
EDIT: Crap. Crazy fucking L.A. traffic- a whole block or two of downtown was block off and that fucked up traffic so bad I knew I wouldn't make my Dr.'s appointment so I had to reschedule for Monday. I was really looking forward to being home early tonight. Booo-urns!
One of the women I work with in my office had a nervous breakdown this morning. Crazy.
Wow, there is no one in our building at all expect me and the three IT people. Why the fuck do I even show up on days like this? Who would know if I weren't here? Saw "Forbidden Kingdom" last night. Not so good. Going to see "Harold and Kumar..." tomorrow. Already have my ticket to see "Iron Man" Thursday night at midnight. Sweet. Ha. I'm still such a nerd.
Oh, and I found out that a book of collected of poetry that was just published - you know, one of those Poetry.com things- has published one of my poems, and put it on the first page. The interesting thing is that my dad was published in one of their books a couple years ago, and he was also put on the first page.
The poem in question was one I wrote a few years ago. A friend was driving me to the airport and as we were driving down the 405, I saw a red shopping cart just sitting in the L.A. river. So I wrote:
Red Cart
A bright summer morn at ten o'clock is already warm with out-of-school sunshine. Down the concrete slope of the manufactured L.A. river, sits a red shopping cart, two inches of run-off soaking its motionless wheels. Empty, it sits in the heat without purpose, like a discarded Radio Flyer, no children willing to retrieve it for joyrides through parking lots or through the shallow water in which it resides. Even the business for which it was built will never miss it. It merely waits for a rush of flood water that will never come, to wash it away from sight.

How are you? It's a perfect So Cal day; in the 70's, sunny, and I would rather be at Moonshadows in Malibu with a cool drink in my hand, watching the dolphins swim by. Ok, so I'd rather be doing that any given day of the week. Who wouldn't? : )
How is everyone else?
Hello, beautiful people!
Hope you all had a decent week. I'm feeling better, myself. Thanks to those who inquired. Everybody make sure you get your vitamin C - this bug going around is no fun.
Have to review another movie this month so I might check out the new Jackie Chan movie, "The Forbidden Kingdom". I don't think it'll be all that good, but Jackie Chan rocks the action sequences. I do want to see the new Harold and Kumar movie next week, too. Also, I think "Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden" comes out this week. That looks funny. Direct by Morgan Spurlock who brought us "SuperSize Me".
Have a friend's Engagement party tomorrow, then another friend's comedy show at Meltdown Comics on Sunset. Interesting place for a show.
Hope you are are well and happy. And ladies, you're all beautiful and wonderful. Thanks for being you.
Love to all,
~ Neil OXOX
Seriously. This has been an ooky week. I wake up Monday with a sore throat. By Monday night I'm know I'm not going to work Tuesday. Fever breaks Tuesday night. Wednesday I feel a bit better but get a message that my MRI is scheduled for Thursday morning. Thursday I feel well enough to go to my MRI for my knee. I spend an uncomfortable 25 minutes up to my chin in the crazy loud magnetic device which is mostly annoying because I can't move or shift when I DO get uncomfortable. About 1 PM, after lunch, I decide I'm too tired to go to work so I go home. I wake up today feeling kinda woozy so I come to work at noon. I'm still a little tired. Probably going to be a relaxing weekend. I should see a movie and write a review. Perhaps "The Ruins".
I'll be meeting with my orthopaedist next week to discuss my MRI. Yay.
Now I have SO much to catch up with here.
