Phillies win game 2 !!   Now let's see if they can keep it going for two more games!

So, I'll be checking out the movie "Quarantine" this weekend.  Looks pretty good.  Also going to the Egyptian Saturday night for a double feature of Ray Bradbury films, and he'll be there to introduce and discuss them.  That should be cool.  I could be up for drinks sometime over the weekend, too...

Sunday, it's Game 3 of Phillies vs. the Dodgers.  Then "Dexter"!

Man, what a day.  There was some really great stuff yesterday.  Two programs of shorts and quite a few of them were really good.  The stand-outs were "The Room", about a girl in a room, and finding out why.  It's not just about the full moon anymore.  : )
Then there was "Cheerbleeders".  Pretty funny stuff.  I love my horror with laughs.

The second program stand-outs were, "How My Dad Killed Dracula", a funny practical joke story a dad tells some kids on Halloween, and "Kirksdale", a very good inmates-take-over-the-asylum story.  This one won the best short film award.  It will be on the ComedyFilmNerd website before too long.

The feautres were not bad.  Well, one of them was bad.  Really bad.  But it was "Plan 9 From Outer Space" bad.  Clearly funny in unintentional ways.  But, a film called "Conjurer" was pretty good, if not more of a suspence/thriller/ghost story.  And it had John Schneider in it!  He was, of course, one of the original "Dukes of Hazzard", and Jonathon Kent on "Smallville". 

One of th eother films, "Alien Raiders" (worst title ever), had a few recognizable people in it, such as one of the guys from "24", and the gay cop from "Six Feet Under".  Strangely, he played another cop.  Apparently this movie has gotten distribution from Warner Bros. and will be on DVD soon.
Even some of the shorts had some recognizable faces.  In "Burying the Ex", the guy that plays the psychiatrist Sweet on "Bones" is the main character.  It's not a bad short, but could've used more funny.

This is a really great film festival.  It's not too big and impersonal, infact, it's liek a close-knit family of people.  And they're all really cool and nice.  I recommend it next year if anyone likes horror (and I know there's a lot of you) and some sci-fi movies.  I had a really good time and saw lots of fun stuff.

So it was a long day Saturday at the fest.  Got there for the noon shorts and at least two of them were really good.  I think we'll try to get them on the website.  My favorite was "The Procedure".  It's really creative and unique.  I managed to meet the director and he's pretty cool. 
The documentary about H.P. Lovecraft was really good, too.  Then I watched a feature called "Dark Reel", which was much funnier than expected, pleasantly so, but was only an Ok horror movie.  It had some names in it, like Ed Furlong, Lance Henriksen and Tony Todd (who was in attendance at the fest). 
Then I took a break, when for something to eat and came back for the 8:15 feature, "The Open Door", which actually sold out three screening rooms - but a few people didn't show so I got to see it.  Not too bad, really.  The actors wre all really good and I think that had a lot to do with it being as good as it was. 
I decided to stick aroud for the last feature called "Bane", from England.  It wasn't bad, but could've been cut by about 15 minutes.  And it was shot on digital video and that gives it that BBC feel which can be good or bad depending on how it's shot.  This was kinda mixed for me.  Good acting, though, and some effective use of lighting and camera angles.  And wow, was there a LOT of caro syrup blood.  : )

All in all, a good day.  Tomorrow will have a lot more shorts, and I think at least two features I want to see.  Then I'll be at Boardner's for the after party.

So I checked out some Shriekfest tonight.  There was a 5 minute short film called, "Eel Girl" that was great.  It was made by tthe people at WETA, whom you'll remember was the effects team that did the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Then the feature was "Ray Bradbury's Chrysalis".  This was a low-budget film based on the Bradbury short story.It was actualyl pretty interesting and pretty good, with a few minor exceptions.

Tomorrow starts at noon with a series of shorts until about 1:30 pm, then the Lovecraft documentary, which it turns out is made by a guy I actually know.  Small world.  then there are possibly two features I want to see, but that will depend on how much tiime I want to sit in a screening room. 

Sunday, shorts from noon to 3 pm, then between 5-8 pm there are a couple of features I may chaeck out.  Then the awards at 10:30, then off to Boardner's in Hollywood for the after party.  In fact, I may be at Boardner's tomorrow night, too.  That's where the all the folks are going after the screenings.

I'll be picking the shorts I like to try to pick up for viewing/distribution on the website.  There's already a couple I think are gonna be great.

So, a busy weekend of horror and sci-fi for me!  Yay!

There are going to be three films screening at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on October 10 and 11 and Ray Bradbury will be there in person!  "Something Wicked This Way Comes on the evening of the 10th, and a double feature of  "Moby Dick", and "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" on Saturday night the 11th.
Yes, they are all based on Bradbury stories, and he wrote two the the screenplays.  Adn I've seen Ray Bradbury speak- he is always inspirational!  He a amazing and I HIGHLY recommend any opportunity to see him.

So I got me a press pass for Shriekfest this year.  It's a horror/sci-fi film festival this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Hopefully there will be some good shorts and features.  There's a documentary about Lovecraft that I'll be checking out for sure.  Then I'll be writing about the fest on ComedyFilmNerds.com.

Turns out, that Berry Berry Kix is pretty darn tasty!  It's not too sweet, but has just enough of that berry flavor.  It's a win!  And I've got five fuckin' boxes of it.  : )

And the new Metallica is, well, not perfect, but still the best original material they've recorded since 1991.  I feel like the vocals are a little too produced, and sometimes I feel like they're kinda walking through the music, but otehr times I think it's some of the more interesting stuff they've written.  Let's say it's a step in the right direction, but I suspect Metallica's best work is already behind them.
Too bad.

At least I've got Motorhead.  Lemmy never really disappoints, you know?  : )

So, my box of Berry Berry Kix just arrived!  Five boxes of the stuff.  I know what I'm having for dinner!  : D

On a side note, the new Metallica was in the same box.  We'll see how good it is.  Yay, Amazon!  I love getting cereal and music in the same shipment.  : )

So, after that AMAZING sushi at Hide the other night, I am going to go out and have more in a few minutes.  Probably not Hide, it's all athe way over on the west side.  I'll just go to Kabuki, even though it won't come even close to being as good.  Then I'm off to see "EagleEye" and review it.  Then I think there's a glass or two of absinthe in my evening.  Oooo, unless I go to Jumbo's....I haven't been in such a long time.  Hmmm, we'll see how I feel later.  You never know.   : )
