Ok. It's been a while since I actually did an actual real update thingy. And there is a fair amount to mention.
So, first off, yeah, I've been sick with whatever cold like thing has been going around. NO, it isn't Swine Flu. I had no fever. Jus tthe usually congestion, sinus sneezy, coughy thing. I'm back at work today, but I feel sort of on the cusp of whether I could have stayed home today, too. Unfortunately, at USC they have the Big Brother clause that says if you are out sick more than 3 days, you have to bring a note from your doctor, like we're in fucking grade school. Who gets a cold/flu and is well in 3 days? WTF?
And as luck would have it, I am going to the Reverend Horton Heat/MOTORHEAD show tonight at Club Nokio downtown. And I'll be damned if I'm not going to that! Nothing keeps me from a Motorhead show. And the fact that I haven't seen the Reverend in 15 years or something, well, that's just the icing on a big rockin' cake.
In other, less pleasant news, some of you may know I went to Cleveland a couple weeks ago becuase my dad wasn't doing well. He had a health emergency and my step-mom said I and my sister better fly out there. Well, he got through that, we got him home, and he seemed ok, even though we had to get him a little oxygen machine for home. Turns out, almost a week after I got home, he was taken to the hospital again, this time for heart issues. He's been in and out, and back into the cardiac ICU the past week and his codtor (a friend of my dad's) says the prognosis is not good. I am sort of in limbo as to whether it's time to fly back again, although, truth be told, I don't think another plane ticket is something I can afford right now.
So, despite my usual cheerful, positive demeanor, I am kinda fucked up right now. It's kinda the way I am, I often keep outward appearances, regardless of what's going on. That bothers some people, I'm sure, but it's just the way I am. Ironically, it's kinda the way my dad is, too. Careful, people, the apple really doesn't fall that far from the tree, no matter how much you might protest. :)
So, I'm pretty much just waiting to hear from my sister of step-mom about what's going to happen. There's isn't much I can do about it either way, so I'm just trying to go about my days.
I went to Shreikfest Horror Film Festival last Saturday. Let's hear it for free Press passes! It was pretty cool. Saw a lot of good short films and two decent features. One was a kind of Gothic Horror called "Spike" and another fun horror called "Dark House" starring, among others, the ever amazing Jeffery Combs (from Re-Animator)! He was great, as one would expect. Plenty of scary laughs were had by all. That being said, though, I think last year was a bit better. There were more features, most of which did not look all that unique or interesting. Horror is such a tapped out genre, it takes a lot to get me in the theater. I really need more originality to pique my interest. I already look forward to next year, though. :)
No big plans tomorrow, just going to Hollywood Billiards at about 6 pm with friends to watch the Phllies game. Sunday; football, and of course "Dexter", still the best show on TV.
And of course, it goes without saying that you are all lovely people and I'm consistently happy to be a member of this fine community. You are all unique and amazing people.
Cheers.

Thank you - and many good thoughts to you and your partner, oxox
Haha - don't tell Michael C. Hall that. Or maybe he would be pleased that you didn't know? He IS a great actor!
You know, I have only heard "Paranormal Activity" mentioned but haven't seen amy trailers. I'll have to Google that and check it out. ...Ok, just did and it looks pretty interesting. I'll probably see it and review it for the website I write for.
A movie called "AntiChrist" by Lars Von Trier looks really interesting, too. Comes out October 23.
I really need to get in to the Halloween spirit this year.

Thanks, man, I appreciate it. Truth be told, he is not a young man. He was a bit older when I was born, so he's had a long life. He just has too mnay things wrong with him- body sorta falling apart, you know? But as they say, the rest of the world goes on, yes?

It's never easy to stand-by anticipating the worst and hoping for the best, but especially with parents - no matter how old they get. Hope he's feeling better soon.
Not much into horror pictures myself, but Dead Snow almost piqued my interest.
Push all else aside and enjoy RHH & Motorhead & have a great weekend

I don't think swine flu combined with the plague could keep me away from a Motorhead concert.
And this year has been absolutely, devastatingly rough on people when it comes to losing their loved ones. My partner is battling with skin cancer right now and it has been a long, difficult, emotional journey for both of us, so I really empathize with you about your father.
Wouldn't you know, a few weeks ago was when I realized the guy who plays Dexter is the same actor who played David on Six Feet Under? Damn, that boy can act!
Speaking of horror, have you heard about the film Paranormal Activity yet? It looks like another Blair Witch, but inside a house with ghosts. I'm on the fence about it, but the trailers look interesting.
