a friend and i are leaving this godless, frozen midwest and headed to palm desert.

hoping to find somewhere to crash 'til we can find a place to live. . .

if you've got a sofa, floor, or backyard you wouldn't mind sharing for however long you can stand us, it would be amazing.

we're both pretty amicable.  we smoke (a few things), but don't have to.  we don't do any hard drugs.  we won't have pets with us.  she's an artist and an animal psych major, i'm good with everything and a writing major.

we're leaving christmas night.  i'll be taking my bike and trailer, she'll be driving her car.

couchsurfing.com is down, so i'm hoping this isn't too forward.

let me know!

jami.

also, what's the reputation of california state?  any better suggestions?

Sarah Palin.  What a bitch.

She's the Republican wet dream and a nightmare for human rights.  Like some b horror movie, she lures you in with her appearance, something spicy beneath that librarian exterior.  Unfortunately, that "something spicy" is. . .

. . . .criminalized abortions!

. . . .no same-sex marriage!

. . . .no state aid to same-sex couples!

. . . .creationism in schools!

. . . .killing of polar bears, beluga whales, wolves. . .by any means necessary. . .including that gibberish about Global Warming!

. . . .what's that about corporate bribery?  Huh?

It's strange how far back one woman can take America.

Since she's relying primarily on sex appeal and not experience, I'm pretty sure she'd like to get rid of the right for women to vote.

I can't decide if she reminds me more of Celeste Martin or Nurse Cratchett.

Either way, I'm actually afraid.  Sex appeal is a HUGE seller in god's america.  The only way Obama can compete is if he switches his stiff cracker running mate for a baby holding a puppy.  With porn in the background.

I didn't think John McCain and his raptor arms had much of a chance.  Indiana's even looking to swing democratic this year.

I just hope women realize that bajingo does not equal progress.

IN other news:

No. I don't know what it is. But it's got something to do with This.  Which is the largest thing I've ever wanted to have sex with.

Not really.  I have no deforistization goals.  Perhaps exactly the opposite, even.

But I do have cross-dressing goals in the very near future.  And a beard.  So I feel a connection to that rugged, log choppin' life.

Fort Wayne Women's Bureau hosts an annual fundraiser for rape and sexual assault.  Awareness.  Tons of places do the same thing, a little something called "walk a mile in her shoes."  Next saturday (a week from this one), I'll be donning a large pair of hideous pumps and walking a mile in 'em.  Part curiosity, part compassion.  Strike that, all compassion.  I've worn women's shoes before and, I don't know if you know this, they're NOT comfortable. You're supposed to have thirty dollars in pledges in order to participate and I'm there, I've done it with one donor.

It's really pretty strange how many people won't donate because it means I'll be wearing women's shoes.  It's a very serious and decent cause and, frankly, who gives a shit what I'm wearing, you're making lives a safer thing to live.

This isn't a backward brag bit.  Really.  It's a very forward brag bit, but not what you think.  I'm bragging 'cause I get to keep the shoes.

And anyone reading this would probably enjoy the picture of me in a slinky pair of red heels.

I'm debating shaving my legs.

I hope I'm done in time for T's wedding.  If not, I'll just show up in heels.  It's a formal occasion, right?  Formal footwear is appreciated, right?

Incidentally, anyone who wants to donate is MORE than welcome.  For every thirty dollars over my initial donation, I'll be forcing one of my brothers to join me.  If I run out of brothers, I'll go brothers-in-law.

If I somehow make it through all those, I'll start hunting down every male I know.

Any donation (save cash, obviously) should be made to the Fort Wayne WOMEN'S BUREAU.

If you're around, it'll be Saturday the 6th at 9 a.m., walk starts at 10, in Headwater's Park.  If you don't know where that is and want to, either google it or ask.

I'm passing around this survey for this girl with a one-up mushroom on her pants. It's due on monday and she has to write a research paper on the findings, so I need the results no later than Sunday at noon, but preferably sooner. You can send them to me in a private message or an email. Thanks a ton for helping me out! If you have any questions please feel free to call, email, or text me. I will be available all day friday (today) and all day sunday. If you have roommates, friends, etc who can take it, I'd appreciate them doing it too.

Earthquakes?!?

TOTALLY just had an earthquake here in IN.

"An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.4 with an epicenter in Southeastern Illinois rattled the Tri-State in the early    morning hours Friday.

The shaking, which started at about 4:35 a.m. CDT, lasted about 10 seconds.

A reporter at the Associated Press building in downtown Indianapolis reported feeling the earthquake as well. Scott Rosenburgh, a former Courier & Press advertising manager now working in a suburb northwest of Chicago, said the quake woke him there.

No damage has been reported to police dispatch yet. More information will be posted as it becomes available."

You know, today's going to be a strange day.

As a disclaimer, I'm feeling a little calloused.  It is how I feel and it is well based, but it's almost certainly not what anyone wants to hear.

Few of you know it's been five years and two months since I left for the Navy. I joined JUST before the start of the Iraq war.

The job market was bad, I was recently presented with the dilemma of unwed fatherhood, I was scared.

I was one of those emotional cripples that felt "coming of age" needed to happen and the Navy was just the dad to grant it. I pictured us sitting down for a talk about girls, playing catch in the backyard. Needlessly aiding in the murder of thousands of people. Not Terrorists, people.

The reason doesn't matter, the point is, I made a stupid decision to grant myself over to the Dubyuh and His Daddy Complex.

That was over five years ago. I'm no longer in the military, for good reason. It turns out, that "sense of adventure" comes with the small print "and imminent death."

Why am I writing all this? Because an enlistment is for four years. There are now 4,000 U.S. soldiers dead. That's a bad sign for anyone looking to be overly patriotic.

I'm no longer for the soldiers.

Perhaps a harsh comment from a veteran, but an honest one. Each of us is made by our every decision, and anyone left over there couldn't help but know what they were getting themselves into. It's as though thousands of American Jews decided to move to Germany AFTER the concentration camps were known. For what? For a guaranteed meal? For a guaranteed place to live? For a life experience?

For the glory of The Nation?

Bullshit.

I realized today that I can't support the soldier without supporting the war, and I DO NOT promote the idea of senseless death, no matter how the bible tells me so.

So no more care packages. No more capitalist-fodder yellow car magnets. No more lip-service, segregating the All Important Troops from the Abomination of War. They're the same exact thing, five plus years after the war started.

Sorry troops. You want my support? Get the hell out of the military. You don't have a duty to die. You don't have a duty to kill. Surely you've realized that by now.  Surely, you're old enough to be held accountable for your decisions.

You DO have a duty to friends and family, to society, to the world to get your stupid asses back home.

And if you don't, well . . .  you're going to die.

Good luck.

It's not like you weren't warned.

It's been enough time since I changed my hair color to judge - They're permanent.

They have some awkward stipulations, though.  My g/f used the purple while she still had some temporary in her hair and spots have since faded out.  I didn't wait the recommended 3-weeks (or even 3 hours) after bleaching to apply the dye and therefore it's a ton lighter than I was hoping for.

But It's permanent.

Lolane.  The only place I've found it is on e-bay through a seller called "tropicalbeaut."

The stufff doesn't usually cost that much, but with shipping, etc., it'll probably run you about 12 dollars.

Still.  For permanent color like this?  Twelve is not many dollars.
