I read everything I can get my hands on. Fiction or non-fiction, no matter. If I run into a word, concept, phrase, or idiom I've not heard before I look it up. I think I have a good dozen dictionary or dictionary-type reference works... even have the ginormous dictionary of slang... very cool books. Google and Wikipedia are my friends.
I walk every day (I don't own a car) up and down the hills of San Francisco, so I am in pretty decent shape. Of course I could really push myself, but I don't... that's something I should probably do a bit more of actually. The pushing myself thing...
I meditate daily. Half an hour every morning. It really helps me start the day on a calm and even keel. On the rare days when I used to skip it I could feel the difference, so it has now become a ritual as regular and normal as a daily morning shower. Kind of a cleansing of the mind/body/spirit.
I'm sure some would find it odd, but I have been reading Deepak Chopra's "Seven SPiritual Laws" every day for almost three years now. I start with Chapter One on Sunday and finish with Chapter Seven on Saturday. I have him to thank for the daily practice of meditation.
And this isn't really "improving myself"... but for quite some time now I have taken myself out to dinner (or with a friend, girlfriend, or group of friends) every Saturday night. It is my little reward to me for making it through another week... it has become another ritual of mine actually. I look forward to it all week long.
