no, not because of new york, i'm still indifferent about the city. i went out with my boss for drinks, just me and him because the other assist is still in brooklyn doing his own thing. we met up with my boss's agent, and i got to listen to them talk business for a couple hours. i know, sounds totally boring and not fun right? but it was really cool for me because, as a production assistant, i never deal with the business aspect of photography, so this was a whole new world for me. and my boss's agent is the smartest, most savvy motherfucker i've ever met. and soooo well connected to everyone, everywhere. like personal friends with anna wintour kind of connected. and it feels really cool for me because i'm the first assistant that he's met from our team, so i feel like i kind of have a leg up, so to speak. it's just something special that only i was there for, which is really cool. and he knows my name now so i can talk to him when i see him on shoots and stuff. who knows, if he likes me he could be a really valuable contact later on. not that any of this is really amazing on a global scale, i mean this is pretty much textbook networking strategies. but with my limited (to put it mildly) social interactions and aggressiveness on the professional front, it's a major accomplishment. so i'm going to bed quite happy with myself tonight. now if only i had a girl here with me to take advantage of having the hotel room to myself... but let's not reach for the stars all in one night. baby steps, y'all.
meh. i'm not impressed. it's just like chicago, except really condensed and monotonous. i walked about 80 blocks today, and with the exception of times square, it all looked exactly the same. probably the most boring walk i've ever taken. washington square park is under construction, which sucks big time. that huge famous archway is all fenced in and the fountain behind it is completely torn out. i was hoping to maybe get some pictures there, but no. i tried to go walking earlier this morning, with the intention of going north toward central park, but i went the wrong way as soon as i stepped out the hotel door and ended up on wall street. and it was pouring. with 40 mph winds. i was cold and wet and not happy when i got back. plus i've still only slept about two hours in the last two days. i'll be amazed if i get back to LA without getting sick. one interesting thing to note: pedestrians have no regard for traffic here. they just cross the street against the light, and cars have to try to thread the needle between the people. it's fucking crazy. but i guess when there's that many people on the street, you pretty much have to let them do it just to keep the flow going. i'm alone now because my coworker went to visit some friends of his in brooklyn, and i don't really know what to do with myself. i'm sure there's a bunch of cool stuff to do here in tribeca/soho, but i don't know how cool any of it would be by myself. the weather's supposed to be better tomorrow, so hopefully i can get out and see some more stuff. i'd really like to go to the brooklyn bridge, but i don't know if my coworker will want to do that, since he just went over there today. tomorrow might be a better day for the park, too, when the sun comes out. so yeah, if anybody has ideas on how to make new york more fun, lay 'em on me. otherwise it's going to get a big thumbs down.
the epic marathon of the wire season 4 is underway. i must finish before leaving for new york tomorrow night, or it's all i'll be thinking about while i'm gone.
sometime last night i reached the 3000 profile view milestone. i know i shouldn't base my self worth on something so silly, but i do. go me!
time for twizzlers.
yes, i did notice the decorative little flowers in the gray spaces on the side of the page. thank you!
fucking sweet, my blurb book came today! overall i'm pretty happy with the quality. if i had more pages i'd have made it a hardcover, but then it would be more expensive to buy. if anybody out there really likes my work and wants to buy the book i'll love you forever. here's the link: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/239805 and spread the word! i just want people to see my stuff.
