Some relationship advice from an old guy....

Take it for what it's worth, but in every relationship there are only 2 possible outcomes:
1) You stay together forever.
2) You break up.

All relationships are complex. You have to keep as simple a perspective as possible or you will go crazy.

So up until now, I have only read Fight Club & Lullaby & have not been really impressed or thought all of the hype to be justified. I know it's not his fault, but he gets praised through the roof for a writing style that is marginal at best & echoes several writers who are better & lesser known. Anyway, I decided to try one more time to become converted to the cult of Chuck Palahniuk, so I just finished reading his latest book Rant. And once again, it's a good book but  I fall short of loving it.  I'd say 3.5/5 stars. But it got me thinking about some other writers whose works I have really enjoyed & that I wish more people had read. So if you are reading this, you are probably really bored anyway, go hunt some of these down:
Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Celine
Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr.
Killer Inside Me by Jim Thompson
High Priest of California by Charles Willeford
Scar Lover by Harry Crews
Women & Post Office by Charles Bukowski
Ask the Dust by John Fante
Coin Locker Babies, Almost Transparent Blue & Piercing by Ryu Murakami
Last Good Kiss by James Crumley
the Parker series by Richard Stark
Wheel Man & the Blonde by Duane Swierczynski
Snakes & Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara
Waiting Period by Hubert Selby Jr.
Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille
BigHead by Edward Lee
the Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
or read Orwell, Vonnegut, Heller Jr, Salinger, Harper Lee or Burroughs again.
My night last night...

Sacramento has a series of free summer concerts every Friday night at a park downtown. usually 3 or 4 local bands play & a lot of people show up. It's a nice way to hear good music & support local bands. My friends band were the openers last night, they sounded great & needless to say, I had a lot of fun. saw a bunch of people I hadn't seen for a while & a lot of dancing, happy homeless folk.
Anyway, you should all check out my friends bands myspace page, at www.myspace.com/theeveningepisode. If you like Portishead, etc. you will like them!

Slight rant: One of the people I saw last night is a girl who I have known through mutual friends for about 4 years, yet every time I talk to her, she acts like it's the first time she has met me.  I really, really find that irritating!
It's not even safe to go into a bookstore anymore!

Avril Lavigne has a manga out.

Surely, this is a sign of the Apocalypse?
