I’ve been wondering lately if websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and the like have caused the death of email. With constant status updates, for usually the most trivial of events, if you can even call them events. There are no real in depth conversations any more.
I remember when first getting online the main way of communicating with your friends were by email or by instant messengers. I’d eagerly await emails from my friends that I didn’t see all the time, and read with with great interest the detailed updates of what was going on in their lives. Then was the fun of replying with the up’s and down’s that were my stories to tell. But that seems gone now.
Maybe it is just me that is sad, but most of the emails that I receive now are either telling me about the afore mentioned status updates or trying to selling me something. As much as I love these social networking sites, I miss emails. I love the personal in-depth emails more than the sometimes pointless status updates.
I was never a great letter writer and email appealed to the sloth in me. No longer did my recipients or indeed myself have to put up with my bad handwriting and poor spelling. The hand numbing effort of trying to keep my handwriting neat and legible, which minutes in to any letter would drive me mad and you’d see a distinct change in my handwriting. Where I just didn’t care anymore and figured the sentiment behind the writing of the letter would be appreciated more that the neatness of my handwriting. So email was my way forward.

Start emailing again! I mean I;m on twitter and everything like that, but I email my mom daily, evem though she calls me almost every night. And Ducky and I email back and forth whenever we have something really important to say. It's all still useful and relevant, you just have to still use it. I think anyways haha

IM killed email first I think.
I never really wrote long emails like that anyway though. Hmmm...
You should just TYPE letters and print them out and mail them! =D Send me one!

Haha, I remember when stamps cost 38 cents Canadian. They are 50-something now I think.

here it used to be a case of just 1st class or 2nd class, not it depends on the size and shape of your letter

i mean, everything is changing though. things keep getting faster and faster and more and more accessible. i too think it's sad. i mean, in the days when email and AIM were the ways of communication, a lot of things were still done in a normal manner. now with social networking, its like everything else has jumped ahead. in my job search i haven't filled out 1 application in person. it's all online now. as bob dylan would say, "oh the times, they are a'changin"
