Three works in progress, like the rest of my life.
STATE BEACH, SUNSET
She Laughs
And says surely you don't believe we can change the world.
I smile, to say I do.
And I wonder, a thousand years ago,
did two lovers walk along such a beach,
and say these things we say.
A SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Drinking champagne from between your lips
After mornings in the sun
The summer my mother died
Later, we would lay in my single bed,
you asleep
My shoulder your pillow
And I, awake
Listen to bits of the songs
Playing on the car radios from outside my bedroom window
It's where I learned to be patient
On Sunday afternoons
THE NAMES
The names they stand
Like a wall between us
Unsaid, but there
Nevertheless
You ask me to say them
An incantation
To break a spell
Purge a betrayal
But how can I say what I don't remember
What I never learned
They weren't names to me
They were the length of a thigh
The curve of a body
The quiver in a smile
The sadness in the eyes
And so the names stand
Unsaid,
a wall
Between what was and what might have been
Still there
Nevertheless

Thank you.
Jezebel
What you have thus far I enjoyed.
This inspires me to want to write more.
I have so many works in progress saved here, saved there.
If only I could grab the reins of my wandering mind....
