Phairus's journals
<< back to Phairus's profile
so this coming tuesday, i pack my bags and head to sunny san diego for the craziness that is comic con, i know a few are going to be there, how about you???
the best pixar movie, ever, and the best movie of 08, and i am going to be greatly dissapointed if it is not nominated for an Oscar or two.
so yeah if you didn't noticed, i loved this movie, and i cannot stress to you, the fact you need to go out and see it, especially if you can find it in digital somewhere.
anyone else out there agree/disagree
oh yeah "wanted" was pretty good to, epic gunfight at the end, cool special effects and Angelina Jolie, what more could you ask for.
just booked my flight and hotel for my trip to japan in november... i cannot WAIT!!!!
i am looking for someone out there in the australia, i am trying to track down some music and i was hoping someone could help me out. thanks in advance
Sean
so this is my offical post and/or review of Indiana Jones IV. This is going to contain some spoilers, so if you have any intention on seeing it, you may want to pass this over and wait to read it.
First up, let me say this was the first big summer movie i was looking forward to the most. no interest in iron man and speed racer was a want to see, but not a big hurry. i had read a few early reviews before i saw this movie and it was not looking good, but i really don't let reviews turn me in any way. everyone is entitled to their opinion, i like some movies, other hate and vice versa.
So here we go, well it has been a long time since we last saw Indy and from the first time you see him, you can tell it has been a long time. Out of all the scenes in this movie, he really looks old in this first scene. chase/getaway scene is pretty good in the warehouse, most of which is in the trailer. there is a small little easter egg in the warehouse, one of the trucks knocks over the container with the ark from the first movie in it. so far so good, until we see Indy(in a fridge) vs atomic bomb test. i know there have been some times in the indy series where you have to sort of hold off your reality hat for a second, but i really think, this was too far.
after this, we come to a scene with 2 familar faces, the janitor from scrubs and caleb nichol from the OC/ charles whidmore from LOST. so enough tv trivia for now. now i like to come to the part where something inside my head, went oh god please no! enter shia lebouf as the "greaser kid". i think from the first time he shows up and starts (over)acting the part, i knew this wasn't going to be good. the car/motorcycle chase was pretty good, with the funny one liner as they leave the library.
for the next half hour or so, i started to notice that most of the scenes looked like there were shot on a small set, the jungle and tomb scenes, looked small and compact, the scenes in the first three seemed like you were really there, this to me and others, seemed unrealistic. example, the quicksand scene, they tried to hide it with some funny lines with Indy and the snake/rope, classic indy.
next big scene, the chase in the jungle with infamous "tarzan" and the "you tube crotch shot". if you saw this you know what i am talking about and there is nothing more to be said, other than wtf. the little scene with the 3 waterfalls was funny, and seemed like old school Indy, so they did seem to keep some stuff the same.
next up this is the big part either you hated or loved. before i get to this, let me just say for those that really don't me, i have this interest in aliens, so if anything has to do with aliens, i am more likely to enjoy this more than others. so by saying this, i wasn't that turn off by the aliens towards the end, in fact if they ever make replicas or minitures of either the skull or the skeletons, count me in, friggin rad, in my eyes. did aliens belong in indiana jones, not really sure. but with all of the communist scare and roswell/area 51 news at that time, i can kind of see why it was put in the movie.
so what are my overall opinions would i suggest this film....yes, but i would go in with low expectations. this review was based on 2 screenings of this film. so i had more time to look over the movie the second. if you loved or hated this film, i don't think your stupid for your opinion, i just felt the need to post mine for some reason. so please feel free to comment on what i have stated, i would love to hear both sides and to see what others thought. and i won't be surprised if someone tells me to shut up and just enjoy the movie
have a good one
Sean
well it had been awhile, so i figured an update was due. i will try and not make this a book so i will keep it pretty simple and to the point. so let's begin.
work-has been good, been pretty busy, i am trying for the team lead position at fedex and i sort of got promoted here at ipic, just not an offical promotion. i got to build a film, due to us getting iron man on 35mm instead of digital, which was actually kind of fun.
movies- i've seen forgetting sarah marshall, iron man and speed racer. sarah marshall was actually pretty funny, both iron man and speed racer were ok. i am looking forward to Indiana Jones and Wall-E coming out soon.
shows- i saw Streetlight Manifesto, the Swell Season and Eddie Izzard on the past few months. all were awesome shows. nothing coming up till summerfest, other than the annual outing to a brewer game with family and friends. i am still planning on going to san diego for comic con this year, me and my mom are going to the rams vs dolphins game in St louis, thanks to my uncle dick we have free tickets and a place to stay. so that will be fun. and the big trip is in november, at the end of the month i am buying my plane ticket and booking my hotel for my trip to tokyo. i have enough money saved up and i am waiting till the end of the month that way i have some extra money in case i wanna upgrade anything. so i am going to be spending my birthday in tokyo, having a meal at the restaurant from lost in translation.
kids-the kids are doing well, they have been more sociable to my roomate gene, that could have something to do with him feeding them when i am gone. they are still pretty crazy and make me laugh pretty much every day doing something.
softball, we are three weeks in and we are 0-3, i don't know if i need to go anymore into that. the games have been close, it's been a rough start. so hopefully we will get back on track and win a game here and there.
WOW or World of Warcraft- i started playing again a few months ago and i got my main character up to 50, only 20 more levels to go. i havent played too much lately, been too busy, looking forward to a day to just sit and home and put some time into my other characters. i did end up joining some of my fellow guildmates for an orphan week run. i am not going to try and explain it. for those that play wow you will undertsand.
wii- i bought mario kart for the wii and i have been playing that every once in awhile, i am buying the wii fit board next week, so that should be fun.
movie groups- i joined 2 movie groups here in miilwaukee and i have been going to movies with them here and there, which is nice, so i don't end up going solo, which kind of sucks.
oh and the ears are clear is in reference to my left ear which has been clogged up the past few days, i was sick last week and a day or so, my left ear starting to hurt a bit and i could not hear very well. so i went to the doctor, got some antibiotics and some ear wax removal stuff and i am happy to say, i can hear again out of my left ear. a day late if you ask me, i saw speed racer at the imax and saw eddie izzard last night i could hear ok, but i wish both would have worked then.
i hope all is well in your neck of the woods and i will talk to ya later.

boy i never thought i would be saying that, but after many people suggesting i check out iron giant, i finally did and it was good. it was directed and i think written by brad bird, before he went to work for pixar, so that is part of the reason i wanted to check it out. anyone else seen it??
as the great funny man daniel tosh said, "well if you are a vin diesel fan you shouldn't be here, you should be at home, coloring"
yeah i am not a huge vin diesel fan
Maybe in another life I could find you there Pulled away before your time I can't deal, it's so unfair
And it feels, and it feels like Heaven's so far away And it feels, yeah it feels like The world has grown cold Now that you've gone away
Leaving flowers on your grave To show that I still care But black roses and Hail Mary's Can't bring back what's taken from me
I reach to the sky And call out your name And if I could trade I would
And it feels, and it feels like Heaven's so far away And it stings, yeah it stings now The world is so cold Now that you've gone away
Gone away, gone away, yeah yeah yeah...
I reach to the sky And call out your name Oh please let me trade I would
And it feels, and it feels like Heaven's so far away And it feels, yeah it feels like The world has grown cold Now that you've gone away
Gone away, gone away, yeah yeah yeah...
