Listening to: pillar of salt-the thermals

the following albums have made my year:

marked men-fix my brain
marked men- on the outside
the thermals- the body the blood the machine
dead to me-cuban ballerina
riverboatgamblers- to the confusion of our enemies.

that's fun.
the marked men are seriously the best band, hands down, i've heard in quite awhile.
get into em.

going on the road again. that's also fun.
myspace.com/deadtomesf for locations/dates.

xo.

when  my friend told me he was putting out the marked men record and was really stoked on that I was bummed as I was trying to push this *best band in DC* friend's band on him and he wouldn't bite. </name drop> but then, yeah they are fucking good.

I was reminded of your refused thread of a little while back where I said something to the effect of "yeah they were cool but engine kid was the shit", and I dunno why, but as good as they were it was always kind of hard to shake the notion of having seen it done better and earlier, which I hate when people do that... it bugs the shit out of me actually, but then there's the Bad Brains.

It's an easy one, I dunno if you ever heard that fake interview with the guy who wrote the "Ultimate Arguement Settler" book (also fake) but he basically talks shit on every band but then surprisingly champeons the odd band here and there. You whip out the Bad Brains or Minor Threat and you're pretty much calling bullshit on everything after them.

So I got this Bad Brains Live At CBGB's 1982 video. Three shows, three nights. Mayhem. And I don't even get off on mindless punk rawk bullshh, but it's just amazing to see this band of African Americans playing hardcore and reggae (quizzically) and being the BEST at it amidst the dumbest display of homo-erotic (isn't that all it is?) moshing. Like -- moshing onstage.

It's so pure and amazing. </dorkin>
