snake oil

Darlings, I have become saturated with a seasonal maenad's fever that leaves me feeling high on energy, yet low on inspiration. Thusly, I feel as if I am wired to an electric bunker, halfway delirious under all this constant brain noise, the push and pull of neurotransmitters and desire, desire, desire.

Summer has been merciless, unforgiving and entirely unfair. It has bled and burned and crashed through me with the fury of a thousand angry gods and I absolutely cannot wait until Autumn reappears again. Like the calm after a bitter storm. I'm already decorating certain areas of the house in a vain attempt to entice the trees to shed their leaves that much sooner. I crave cider and hearty potato stew, pumpkin-scented candles in every room.

The rise of Autumn also has me craving certain morbid historical novels, Victorian legends, stories of witch-haunts and all things spooky & superstitious. A few years ago, I purchased a book called Old Time Punishments in a thrift shoppe in Salem, Massachusetts. The book was a compendium on various medieval torture devices around the world, their functions and purposes and how readily they were used. Needless to say, it is an interesting bit of treasure. Even the illustrations are stories unto themselves:

Random deliciousness: Canada gets severely jilted when it comes to eccentric coffee creamer flavours, even during the holidays. So after I voiced this disappointment to my mother, she generously sent out two flavours from back home, both of which I could eat with a spoon, no coffee even required.

purr.

In keeping with the upcoming holiday theme, can I recommend this for a dark and stormy evening?

f'taghn!

This is definitely for those of you who like your board games infused with a bit of lunacy and Lovecraft. I've only ever played it once because the game is so extensive that it takes at least four or more people to properly invoke the entertainment qualities. Plus, it seems that every fifteen minutes brings a battle with an Elder God and winning that battle with only two people playing is pretty hopeless. Sometimes I remove all the pieces of the game just to stare at the artwork because it is absolutely stunning and very true to form. The cards themselves read like macabre poetry, depending on which ones you draw from the deck.

Lastly, two photos of myself, just because I want to show you how much i adore my current loungewear, even though it doesn't match at all. But it is comfortable, and if there's something I do very well, it's knowing how to be comfortable in completely mismatched clothing.

xo.

We have Arkham Horror - I didn't know you liked board games! (We are board games folk in my house).

Oh man, I love board games! I have two different zombie board games (one with wind-up plastic zombies) and all kinds of RPG card games, one that is based on being a werewolf and trying to fool the townspeople into thinking you're a civilian.
Then, of course, there are the basics, like Backgammon and Scrabble. Sadly, I haven't been in the mood to play any of these lately, but with the seasonal change coming, I think the mood might find me again.

The last picture of you is so cute.  I love your lumberjack hoodie.

I'd be lying if i said it didn't make me think of Wolverine when I wear it. /nerd

That is awesome.  I kind of thought of you a bit yesterday when my friends and I decided we are all going as X-Men for Halloween.  One friend is going to be Wolverine and I am going to be Deadpool.

Deadpool?! My beau is all about the Deadpool. You'll have to post photos of your finished costumes.
I'd love to prance around in my Jean Grey costume for Hallowe'en, but I don't have plans to attend anything yet.

Yeah we're just doing it for shits and giggles,  I will definitely get pics up after the fact.  I'm sure I'll have a hard time finding a mask and some fake swords, heh.

My four-legged brood seem to love it as well. As soon as we lay down on it, it's like it has a built-in Coma Skill +25,000.

since you share the same appreciation for morbid reading material, board games (extra points for The Lovecraftian sort), autumn, and the twilight zone (well i am assuming because of your pj's) coupled with the fact that you are supremely easy on the eyes I have no other choice but to deem you all sorts of peachy & keen, as well as fine and dandy :)

Am I also the bee's knees?
And yes, Twilight Zone rocks my world. Did you ever see the new episodes they made, with Forest Whittaker as the host? They were pretty good, but nothing really compares to the classics.

the bee's knees and the cat's pajamas!

i didnt really mind the new episodes, but they are certainly missing something that i can't quite put my finger on.

My favorite one was the episode where the college kids took a vacation to a tropical jungle and they ended up finding an ancient Aztec cave and spilling a jar of blood that was in the cave. Soon after, the world went into a deep freeze and they had to sacrifice someone in their group to bring the sun back... or did they? Great episode!

I like board games. I love your eyes, such a beautiful color.

Any particular games you're loving at the moment?
And thanks, I get compliments on them often. They are prone to telling stories my mouth never can.

The Autumnal Equinox is my fave of all the seasonal times.  And indeed, I admit to sometimes missing the joys of the change of color in the trees.

That Old Time Punishments book sounds fascination.  I have perused some website with similar information and it is wonderfully fascinating and macabre.  :)

I'm SO going to have to look for this Arkham Asylum game!  Who doesn't love all things Cthulhu?  :)

My dear, you are always a vision of singular beauty.  I hope you have a lovely night!

If you want an eye-rolling good time, pick up a copy of Malleus Maleficarum. It's the compendium that was used during the famous Salem Witch Trials to determine if the accused was a witch or not. Fascinating old-worlde irrationality. ;)

You are beautiful and I think Boiling to death is AWESOME

River

For some reason, boiling to death makes me think of turkey. Or chicken dumplings. And then I get hungry. It's probably a good thing I wasn't a medieval executioner, or I think I'd have some issues.

Someone with a strong grip on words. Unique and so descriptive, you always paint such a good picture.

That book is Bad Ass, I lost my copy :(  There's always cool books to be purchased in Salem.

It took years of practice, lots of patience and many a frustrated night with an eyeliner pencil and a wet washcloth to get the symmetry just right. But it was worth the effort. :)

Gah. I have no patience. So I'll just stare at you and swoon instead, deal?

Ps, where in ontario are you living, just out of my personal curiosity haha

River

I live about forty minutes north of Toronto, in a town called Barrie.
You live close to that, right? Please tell me you live close to that! I'm envisioning all kinds of hot, modified girl-girl sets between us.

I'm in Edmonton :(

My best friend is near Ottawa and Ducky is in Toronto so I need to find my way out east for a visit soon, so I'm just trying to figure out everyone who's in that area haha

River

Edmonton, daaaamn. :(
There's a fellow GG here by the name of Kaera who lives in Barrie, but she kind of flits in and out of the site. Shame, too, because she's quite adorable. I think there's a post in the Canada forum about girls who live in or around Toronto. Ah, found it!
