August, you have proven to be the month of open palms and open wounds. Your days are humid, marked by fever and I eat nothing but bread and fruit, strawberries dipped in castles of sugar, olives so salty they tempt my blood vessels into retirement. I prowl through these familar rooms like a newly-born predator, hesitant but alive.
Books, comic and otherwise, keep my brain from inactivity. Currently, I'm reading an erotic short story that is written entirely in Italian. Even though I do not speak the language, reading it is remarkably easy. The way my tongue trips and moves through the dialogue is almost like sex itself. Quanto sei bello. I feel dew-wet, saturated, and I am not even ten pages done.
My lover and I have been going through difficult times lately. Not between ourselves, but due to a malignant cancer that attacked his body earlier this summer. Our lives between then and now have been filled with doctors' appointments, radiation treatments and a surgery that included the removal of his lymph nodes in his groin. After he was released from the hospital, post-surgery, I have dedicated my days to preparing breakfasts and sitz baths, cleaning dishes and laundry. Kisses delivered to his temple while I help him get dressed. I am both nurse and lover, a partner and aide to him in his most vulnerable moments. He is healing rapidly now, since his release from hospital two days ago. His independence is gaining higher ground every day, the light is returning behind his eyes, confidence gathers underneath his skin. The radiation therapy is working, too. He informed me that the tumor is shrinking and the pain he has been battling for nearly two years is almost nonexistant now. Recovery is slow, but here. And we are closing our eyes and exhaling in tantamount relief.

He's been supporting me ever since I moved to Canada until Ithe day arrives when I can gain permanent residence and work legally, so we've definitely got each others' backs.
I have a large folder on my computer that is purely for Wolvie/Jean art only. And yes, some of it is absolutely stunning. Makes me wish I had the talent for painting or drawing because seeing the work of other artists makes my brain go into creative overdrive.
