Birthday. Mine. Recently! It was actually on July 30, but the bulk of celebrations were held earlier today since the 30th was caught up in a bunch of negative tripwires I don't want to talk about here. However, my luvah and I did manage to stop by the local comic shop that day so he could spoil me with a bunch of illustrated eye candy and two XBox games I've been drooling over in my sleep. Behold, loot!
The original XBox and its sibling 360 have been commandeered by me for the past week as I obsessively advance the storylines of both Wolverine and Cthulhu. Needless to say, my dreams have been interesting.
Epic birthday presents continue! Can we talk about how fucking sexy this book is? I could almost cum just by knowing it's on my bookshelf.
The artwork is simply phenomenal, and I have it on good authority that somewhere in this book is a tattoo design waiting to happen for me:

More photos of the belated birthday festivities will appear in a later entry, once the rest of then arrive via e-mail. But I have one more to share because, really, something this wonderfully random deserves immediate recognition:
It's a pen, guys! It looks like a Popple mated with an octopus and then gave their spawn dreadlocks! Eccentric writing utensils make me happy. Too bad I'm not in high school anymore because I woul... no, wait, retract that statement. Fuck high school. Ugh. My pen is reserved for happy places only, not the festering sinkhole that was my high school.
Stress will be a dominant factor in my life and my partner's life for the remaining month of August, so to steady ourselves against the rapidly approaching upheaval, we went out and got haircuts as cheap therapy. A drastic new style was given to me by an awesome, beautiful hairdresser named Dee who had even more beautiful tattoos. She invited me to go to a local club later that day, but I went home and looked up the Myspace of the band that was playing and. Oh. Gee. Hrm. Their shitty screamo-punk music made me cringe, so I politely declined. However, the style she gave me makes me look like the sexiest pseudo-boy, ever:

Apparently, I'm one of those people that can never close her mouth in a photo. There's a blowjob joke in there somewhere, but I'll let you fill in the blanks. Also, for some unholy reason, I have my television playing the first Garfield movie as post-midnight background noise. This is unacceptable; as much as I love Garfield, that movie (and its sequel) were trash. But let's talk about good upcoming cinema: Inglorious Basterds, anyone?
God, I needed that journal update. I hope you did, too.

A lot of people I know say Wolverine is overrated, but one of the things about him that appeals to me in his complex character design. That never, ever gets old.
As Brad Pitt ages, he is looking more and more like my father. I think that's pretty awesome.
dleblanc20
he's always fascinated me because hes just that dark mysterious person with so much going on underneath, overrated my ass.
River
I think the people who say that are sadly misguided. Or fans of Cyclops.

Excellent, Wolverine ^^!
You resemble Milla Jovovich too much I find ^^ you are very pretty and then be fan of Wolverine this deserves respect ^^!
River
I've gotten compared to Milla many times and I never stop enjoying it. Thank you. :)

OH MY FREKKIN GEEBUS!!!! A Wolverine artbook!?!
I waaaaaaaaants!
hows that Wolverine Xbox360 game?
saucy new haircut too, makes your eyes and lips pop. =)

The game itself is pretty rad, although the controls aren't as intuitive as I would like. There's a lot of stages where the jump button has to be dead-on with its accuracy and it fails hard, so I was pretty irate about that. But overall, it stays really true to Wolverine's character and the cut scenes are magnificent.
p.s. I will mail your present soon. I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten.

Happy Birthday! I love that you are into comics as much as you are. I actually have the first printing of the first Wolverine comics. So good! I can't imagine my life without em... ;)
And hells yeah for Inglorious Bastards. I can't wait!!
River
The first printing of the first Wolverine comic..?! I... buh... HI NEW BEST FRIEND. Wow, i bet that cost some serious dough.
August 21 is when the movie is supposed to be released. I wish the theatres around here would have a pre-pre sale on tickets because impatience is such a nuisance.

The Wolverine movie? It's already been in and out of theaters here...and I never got a chance to see it! Damn that 7 day work week! I wonder when it will be out on DVD???
And I actually picked up that first four-issue mini-series when I was a kid, so it was relatively cheap. I think the first issue was $20 at the time. But I just found this website that has the back issues for sale. Actually, it's at a comic book place I used to work at years ago. Check this out!

You got some sweet gifts there. The wolverine game is BAD ASS dude!!! I bought it and could not stop playing it until I beat it. Hope you have as much fun with it as I did :)

River
Thanks! I'm almost finished with the game; I'm in the middle of capturing Gambit and going through the thousands of battles in between to finally get to him. Fucking argh! But in a good way. :)

I love your journal posts. They're always full of wonderful nerdly goodness. Oh, I have that Cthulhu game! It's creepy and fun.
I will overlook the vexing fact that you had the Garfield movie playing because you are pretty awesome. :)
I AM looking forward to "Inglorious Bastards"! It looks like fun. I'm also looking forward to "District 9".
Yay!
River
I've been so addicted to the Wolverine game that I put Cthulhu on hold for a while. My minion status among the Elder Gods has lowered considerably, I'm sure. ;) But I played it for a few hours yesterday and really enjoyed how loyal the developers stayed to the Lovecraft mythos. Very impressive.
District 9! I almost forgot about that! My boyfriend has a theory that Peter Jackson is using set designs from his abandoned Halo project on District 9 since many of the scenes from the trailer are similar to the look and feel of the Halo universe.
wychlea
Oh, that's a good theory! Probably true!
