On Tuesday afternoon my grandpa was rushed to hospital because he was feverish, shaking and couldn't speak or stand up properly.
We suspect a stroke, but nobody wants to say it until he has been completely checked out by doctors. Mum and I went to see him yesterday and he said that through all his hospital visits - his heart bypass AND valve replacement, nothing scared him as much as this time. He said he has never felt this bad. :(
My brother went to see him last night and descovered that he had wet himself, and he said he could not control his urine. He still has a fever.
It looks bleak, however we are all staying positive and visiting him daily, because he loves us, and we love him, and Nonno is an amazing guy. I wish there was not any communication barrier - he has broken English, and it is hard for him to understand us at times, so we have to speak slowly and clearly. I wish I could learn italian, it would make his (and Nonna's) life much easier. i think i will do it for them.
At the moment, the biggest concern is that if the "infection"/fever/sickness" spreads to his heart, the pigs valve that is in it may be too weak to handle the pressure.
This is one of the only photos I have of he and i. I look awful, but I dont care. It was taken on his 50th Wedding anniversary, September last year.
(...okay so I cant find it online, but when i get home i will get it and then upload it!!!)
I truly love him, he is just an older, less-fluent-in-english version of my Dad. <3
On another note, my friends and I got a sick photo of us taken the other day at the mall. Some guys from a coffee store had a stall set up, and they said they were taking photos for valentines day, and did we want one? It was free, we got a free chocolate each, AND they donated money to the heart foundation with each photo taken. Happiness all around. *Note - two of my "girls" (as in, our group from school) were missing in this adventure. Bummed!

Even if you don't know much Italian, I'm sure your grandparents will still appreciate your company and care. I hope he gets better =(.

hahahah its a spray on - and its faded in that photo - however the lighting with the red tent we were in made it much darker. i THINK i prefer pale on me :P thanks for the positive words

I kind of can understand the situation you are going through. With my father being in the hospital a lot because of his heart. I am really sorry for what is going on. I know how it tears on someones heart. I will always be here if you want to talk. I really do hope things get better.

oh i remember when my dad had a bypass... scary as. i imagine its hard for him with his father being in hospital so often. my thoughts are with you and your old man also <3

aww i hope your Nonno gets better, im sure this must be a hard time for you and your fam, but the good thing is your staying positive, and thats all you can do. i hope he gets better
