Chickenpox and shingles are caused by the same virus, chickenpox is the inital infection and is the sores that appear as dots across the body. Some people get shingles as a secondary infection that can happen years or decades after having chickenpox, they apear as more localized sores that appear as stripes and is frequently more painful than chickenpox is. Shingles ussually appear when the immune system has been comprimised from prior illness, immunosupression drugs, diseases that attack the immune system or age.

I had it once when I was very sick with the flu and I didn't take care of myself, a half inch by 2 inch stripe appeared in my chest. It's contagious, but people would get chickenpox from it, people who already had chickenpox are already immune to it (unless thier immune system gets comprimised).

I got sick from my boyfriend, well taking care of him while hes sick.
