OK, I'm not stuck in my attic room trying to finish my costume during a 100 degree heat wave for nothing! This show is going to be so much fun! These bands are amazing and old timey. We performed this January with The Stolen Sweets and it was the best experience and we got a lot of wonderful feedback from it.
So if you live in Portland, come and check it out!
Here's the flyer:

Here's something silly from the last show:

And here's more information about the show than you'd ever need, a press release, so feel important:

The Stolen Sweets, TRASHCAN JOE & ROSE CITY SHIMMY BURLESQUE at THE MISSION
Contact: Jen Bernard, 503-231-1423, jen@stolensweets.com For Immediate Release July 10, 2009
PORTLAND, Ore. -- On Friday, July 31, The Mission Theater will transform from a once Swedish Evangelical church to a vaudevillian paradise. Portland’s premier burlesque and swing dancers will be performing custom routines to the music of Portland’s own The Stolen Sweets and Trashcan Joe.
Though the Sweets have collaborated on occasion with members of Trashcan Joe, this will be the bands’ first official shared bill. Both bands play what many refer to as “old timey” music, which makes them the perfect backdrop for burlesque.
An audience member in New Orleans recently described The Stolen Sweets as “what the Boswell Sisters would have sounded like if they’d teamed up with Django Reinhardt.” Boasting a co-ed camp of five vocalists and three string players, the group plays songs with tight harmonies and intriguing story lines. The Sweets have performed their way into the hearts of listeners from their native Portland to countries abroad. For this special show, the Sweets will be joined by Jason Wells on trumpet (March Fourth, Trashcan Joe).
Trashcan Joe formed in 2002 by Cap'n James Cook, who needed an outlet for all the old-time jazz and folk songs he'd learned over the years. He rustled up Jason Wells on cornet; Mike Danner on accordion, melodica & tuborgan; Arthur Parker on trashcan bass and Kyrstyn Pixton on washboard & kazoo -- & the whole mess of them on vocals. The result is a vast repertoire of everything from jazz standards to movie themes. Both Jason & Krystyn are members of Portland’s most lively sonic cooperative, March Fourth Marching Band.
While the bands are doing their thing, the Mission will be graced with the likes of Portland’s most intriguing burlesque dancers. Charlotte Treuse, Hai Fleisch, Itty Bitty Bang Bang!, Meghan Mayhem and Baby LeStrange recently joined forces to form Rose City Shimmy, Portland’s premier burlesque collective. These gals will perform custom choreography to songs from The Sweets and Trashcan Joe, including finale numbers for each band involving several dancers. When Rose City Shimmy performed with The Sweets back in January, they proved to be the perfect complement – and distraction – for both the audience and the musicians.
Finally, local swing dance kingpin, Russell Bruner of Swingtime PDX, will dazzle audience members with his graceful and dizzying moves. Bruner and his swing dance entourage have become a regular and much-anticipated treat at Sweets shows.

Hey I saw you perform at The Secret Society last-week-ish--you were incredible! I hadn't seen burlesque before and I was very impressed with all the interesting and creative teases. I especially thought it was neato when you put the glove on the twirling parasol.

Hey, finally logged back on...Thanks for the note! It means a lot to hear that, especially since it's a new routine. I love to get feedback. Sometimes you wonder what people are really thinking.... I didn't see you there you should have come and said hi! Come to more shows! There are some fun ones coming up in October, like the "Shiver Show" at the Baghdad on the 29th where we'll be all made up like monsters and there will be a campy movie too!

Oooh, I'll try to come to that one at the Baghdad, sounds like my kind of thing.
