Part 1
This has spoilers in it, so if you didn't get to chapter 4 in genesis, yeah, Adam and Eve are totally kicked out of Eden, and sent his cronies, the Cherubim to guard the place. Just kidding. Kinda, but seriously, I wanna talk about something I was thinking about last night watching Harry Potter, I made you a slideshow for a visual reference. So Harry Potter isn't just some popular kids book, its a pretty staggering book of literary genius if you think about it. J.K. Rowling wasn't writing to an audience of English school kids, it was a book of massive appeal, that was very well marketed, down to her pen name, paralleling the two greatest writers of children's fantasy, C.S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. From her name, you couldn't distinguish a gender, and people who glanced at the books for the first time, were consciously or unconsciously reminded of favorite books from childhood, and in a quasi (or you could even say pseudo) anonymous tradition, she lends an air of authority to her name. Whether she preferred the style or had an idea that it would be a clever idea to market herself, I'm not sure, but it worked in her favor.
Harry Potter is a very believable boy, who grew into a man in the course of the series, written by a woman, who seems to have an almost uncanny ability to bring her characters to life by giving them 3-dimensionality, Harry is a hero, but he is deeply faulted. You can even think of Harry as a kin to Luke Skywalker. Both are brought by their parents siblings, poor with little hope of a future, but both boys have mystical destiny to fulfill, and warriors who use the powers of light (the positive force, and protective magic) to protect others against the powers of darkness, and eventually to meet their destiny, facing down a Dark Lord, who is a father figure, Luke's actual father, and Harry questions that he might a descendent of the family of Dark Wizards, who established the House of Slytherin. And both hero's, before they can accomplish this task, they must learn to control their anger, the destructive force that threatens to bring them to the side of Darkness.
Spoiler Warning!
I have a photoshoot in orange county so I will finish part 2 either tonite or tommarrow, BUT I will leave you with the slideshow I prepared for this post, and I'll get back to some of the subtle genius J.K. Rowling wrote into her books. And allthough I love C.S. Lewis, he has very much a misogynistic agenda for the Queen of Narnia, who is the temptress, the evil stepmother, and well, the Devil herself. The theme of the slideshow is, Harry Potter's scar as proof that his mother died to protect him from Voldemort. Harry learns he can speak Parseltongue, in the HP mythology, this isn't a good thing, its a sign of being a Dark Wizard. He actually uses this ability to save his friends and protect himself throughout the books ironically, and this is where Harry questions who he really is, and if he has darkness lurking inside of him as well, that could consume him.
His mothers name is Lily, her eyes are the brightest green, so are Harry's, he has her eyes he hears from everyone who knew her. When Lily saved Harry from Voldemort, she became the Horcrux that was Harry's scar, thus, trapping part of his soul in Harry, transferring the power of Parseltongue to Harry. His mother's love protected him from death, but also gave him a power that is associated with snakes, and Dark Wizards, and in turn, he used it as a protective power, and even to open secret passageways, where he fights, a basilisk, and is saved by a phoenix.
Lily, my cats name, is short for Lilith, Adam's "first" wife. Who is associated with the Serpent in the Garden of Eden. And Lily is also associated with the Virgin, Mary, Purity, and the Mother of God... More on this... enjoy the photos -
