Prop 8 protest in downtown SD (photo heavy!) posted : 05/27/09 at 03:19pm pst listening to:ray lamontange

I joined in the prop 8 protest yesterday in downtown... I met up with my church (2 of my pastors are openly gay, we are the ones holding the yellow
"I am so sorry..." signs) but mostly ran around the march trying to get good angles for shooting while trying to hold a sign in my purse. I saw one of the openly gay kids I used to work with, now he works in politics, I got his card, I'm gonna email him and see if he'd like to use any of my photos. For a protest where people should be really pissed, the mood was good. Rainbow flags always make for good eye catching color. The mayor of SD came and spoke, his daughter is openly gay, and engaged. At least the 18K couples who are married get to stay married. I have been VERY pro gay rights since I was in high school.. I still can't believe we've been fighting for the right to MARRY for so long, well it goes back on the ballot in 2010, so go out and VOTE!!!

Me, 17, @a gay rally/festival, me and my friends were some of the youngest people there... this was, um 1997... so 12 years later....

Yet, we still have the highest divorce rate in the country and people want to stop marriage between two people who love eachother...

It'll happen eventually if we keep fighting, just like women's suffrage and the african-american movement. It just sucks it's the same fight in a different issue/era. The white dudes in suits just have to keep finding ways to keep people down. And after they get their right to marry, they'll move onto someone else. It's so sad.

And here I was thinking how bad it must be for my sister ans her partner living in Florida.  I really would have thought California was better than Prop 8.   :(

These are awesome pictures of the protest, though.  I hope we can change things soon!
