I got my permit when I was 15 and it expired *THREE* times before I finally went for my license when I was almost 19. 
was this your first time taking the test?  many people don't pass the first time.  I know a girl who had to take it 4-5 times before she passed.

what was it that got you?

At least you had the guts to take your test!
I give you props for that. Just blame it on nerves, especially if this was your first time taking it.

if it makes you feel better, i will admit i went to the wrong place the first time, long story, and the time i went to the right place, i failed due to thinking i was on a one way street. so i hope that makes you feel a little better

My sister didn't take her drivers test until she was 26.  so, you know, don't sweat that shit.  : )
