Jenna try tempeh (great for shish ka bobs), Texturized vegetable or soy protein (TVP or TSP...great for sloppy joes, tacos, any other crumbly type food), bulgher (I use this for stuffed cabbage), and any type of bean...lentil, navy, black, ect...can be mixed with wheat gluten in order to make patties. And speaking of gluten...seitan is really good too.
Yay protein! |

precisely.
People, SALT AND PEPPER TOFU is where it's at. It's really easy to make too, there's heaps of recipes for it floating on the web, although it's best from most chinatown eateries (I don't think it's a big thing in the states though unfortunately). I could live on this shit. |

sometimes the simpler the better. the idea for tofu is that it's flavourless, so that you add your own flavaaa to it, right?
what i normally do with it is fry some diced tofu in a little oil until it's very lightly golden, then add some vegetables like bean sprouts, cabbage, peppers, carrot, baby sweetcorn etc etc. boil some noodles. then when it's all down after about 3 minutes, drain the noodles and stir it all in. i always add soy sauce, then either toasted sesame oil or chilli infused oil.
voila!! |

1) drain extra firm tofu, cut into 1" - thick triangle slices (or another shape you find equally delicious)
2) heat up 3 T vegetable oil (peanut oil rules for high temperatures)
3) Fry tofu on all sides until crispy and brown and delicious
4) Throw in 2 T each soy sauce and maple syrup. Watch as a magical glaze/reduction coats all the tofu in sticky salty goodness.
5) CONSUME.
I recommend either in a TLT sandwich, with some veganaise and some crusty, thick-cut multigrain bread, or over noodles with braised greens and other delicious veggies. |
