The conjoined Sisters on Stage - An evening full of magic posted : Jun 2nd, 2010 @ 8:55 am | by : Josepha | Filed under: Show Reviews

It is Monday May 3rd 2010 and I stand in front of the “Gloria” in Cologne (which is btw one of the most beautiful locations here) waiting to get inside the venue to see the already famous conjoined twins Eva and Lyn Neville aka Evelyn Evelyn.

Their album is on rotation at my house since a few days and so I am full of great expectations and looking forward to what I will get to see …

The Evening started with a very funny and unusual show by Sxip Shirey, an experimental musician from NYC.

Sxip’s music is made with noises from toys, bells, whistles, pipes and even salad bowls. And for the first time this night he used a little thing with made of bicycle bells he got for his birthday a few days ago from Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman.

It is called the Sxipenspiel.

His music is influenced by the sounds of the world. So is I live in New York City a mix of music from different cultures, street noises and police alarm.

Definitely check out his crazy stuff… it is worth it.

After Sxips show is finished he introduced the audience to the famous but shy conjoined twins Evelyn Evelyn. It took a while to get them on stage but when they started playing it was awesome from the first note…

It was entertaining in every way… good music, funny parts.

Sxip played the moderator while Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley played the conjoined twins in a fantastic way… and I still ask myself how much practice you need to play instruments with one hand and the other hand of another person. They played piano, Guitar, Ukulele, drum, and akkordeon.

I made you guys two videos of the twins (sorry for the crappy quality… it was a bit dark in there)

The first is of their song My Space and you can definetely see how much the audience loved the show.

The second one is of their cover of Joy Division’s Love will tear us apart with an Ukulele

They had people on stage, made the audience sing with them and it was simply amazing.

After the Twins finished their set Jason Webley, who is an extremely passionate musician who entered the stage with his accordian. He played a few songs and then Amanda Palmer entered to play something with him together and then played a little solo set.

She was awesome… like everytime I saw her.

She told little stories from her time living in Cologne and let the audience choose songs.

She played Astronaut, a cover from the German punk band Grauzone called Eisbär, a cover of Billy Jean and more.

She and Jason had people on the stage, like a little kid that helped out to play some bells or two girls that helped singing Elephant Elephant in German.

I liked how everyone on stage interacted with the audience. Although it was a really long gig it wasn’t boring for a minute.

In the end Eveyone including the tour manager entered the stage, they gave out beer and let the whole audience sing a drinking song… after making everyone, indeed everyone spin around twelve times.

I never ever in my whole life saw a show that made people join in so much.

After the show Amanda Palmer, Jason Webley, Sxip Shirey and Neil Gaiman (Amanda’s husband to be) signed CD’s and made pictures with the fans.

If Evelyn Evelyn is coming to a town near you, you should definetely go and see the show.
