69 Eyes
by Claire Maxwell

These Helskini Vampires fly through the punk glam rock night, trailing a cult-like following of devoted fans they've amassed over the past 17 years. Born in the dark underground scene of Finland, raised on rock and roll, this fantastic five clad in black and metal know how to party, how to rock, and how to roll with the inspiration they are finding on godgirls for the new album they are recording at this very moment. Angels will be another dagger in the impressive arsenal of albums this goth'n'roll band continues to bring out of the darkness to satiate the appetites of 69Eyes-thirsty devotees around the world. So get ready for a lot of hot rockstar answers from the lead singer and self proclaimed dictator of 69 Eyes, Jyrki69.
  69 Eyes

C: Are you recording Angels right now?
J: Yeah, as a matter fact I‚m listening to a certain demo song right now while I'm surfing on GodsGirls...gimme inspiration... gimme flesh for fantasy!

Can you tell us anything about what the songs are like that will be on it?
One of my favorite is called "Perfect Skin" - it's like a dark and kinky dance hit, then there's a skate-goth-punk anthem, a psychotic rock'n'roll mantra and you know, a bunch of usual 69 Eyes shit... It's going to be very HOT album!

Are they different than or similar to your songs on Devils?

Yeah: more SEX, more GLAMOUR and more ROCK!

Why do you think you - your band, your music - is so successful?

Thanks, I'll take that as a compliment; I think we're bringing back some classic rock'n'roll values from the past as well as update them - you know, from the 80's Gothic Rock to L.A. Glam Rock to "Lost Boys" and to Elvis, sorta thing.

If you were doing a gig on a desert island and could only bring one instrument with you for the whole band, what would it be?
Turntable, haha, Nikki Sixx told me that a couple of years ago turntables were sold more than guitars from Hollywood's Guitar Centre - so isn't that an instrument then? So, then we could put our album on and enjoy the island and maybe some hula-hula girls... oh well, too much Elvis movies for me maybe! What about ukulele on the other hand...?

Still on that island, you can only bring one Godsgirl with you... for the whole band... who would it be?
The one who could beat up the hula-hula girls! See the next answer.

If more than one of you is answering these questions, you can each say who your favorite Godsgirl is but then if you had to pick just one, how would you decide ˆ vote? Draw straws?
Fuck democracy, I'm the dictator here: for starters I would like to recommend Mandy Murders! And hey, Kate's cool too. Love her tattoos.

Why her?
Mandy's a GodsGirls prototype, isn't she?! Hotter than Hell.

Do any of you have girlfriends that are going to be really mad when they read this part of the interview?
Never!

Sex, drugs, and Rock N Roll... sometimes bands start out living that credo, but then grow out of it. What's it like for you when you all when you are on the road?
Back and forth. Now it's definitely back, the true essence of it never dies.

What attracts you to the dark side?
Girls. Sharing the shadow. Getting absorbed by it. Temptation.

Do you ever like wear all white for a day with no makeup and your hair neatly combed back, just to feel different?
Fuck yeah, it would be retarded otherwise. You're rock'n'roll if you're born into that way, in sauna, gym or at Christmas diner, you don't need to pose 24/7, babe - even it looks for the people that you do!

Not many bands stay together as long as you all have, what's your secret?

Friendship. Or we're just doomed.

Did you come up with saying 'fangs' instead of thanks?

It suits us, doesn't it?

When and how did you become vampires?
Haha, 17 years ago when we put up this Goddamn band in Helsinki.... and it feels like yesterday.

What are you feeding on next?

Some summer wine...
