BAYSIDE

interview by Adneris

I had the chance to chat it up with the bass player of Bayside (Nick) recently after they played in my home town of Orlando, Florida. Bayside is currently on tour in Europe at the moment and will be back in the states soon to play at the Bamboozle Fest as well as this summers Warp Tour. They recently released a new album titled "The Walking Wounded" and I highly recommend checking out this album because it is amazing. Off the record, Nick is a self proclaimed "pervert" so ladies be sure you say hello haha as I'm sure he's going to enjoy being on the site.

Nick: Hello

Adneris: How are you?

Nick: Doing good, just watching some TV. People are watching soccer, I'm tagging along.

Adneris: Not a sports man huh?

Nick: I looooove hockey, but that's it.

Adneris: So you play bass right? If I'm not mistaken.

Nick: Yes, I've been playing since I was 15. But not with Bayside. Only about 3 years with Bayside.

Adneris: So you guys are on tour right now, how's that going?

Nick: So awesome, we have only 3 shows left, but it has been our most successful and most fun tour ever. The bands are all so great and such positive people, its a great atmosphere.

Adneris: When you guys have some down time between shows what kind of things do you like to do?

Nick: Eat. We have all gotten way too fat on this tour. Other than that we walk around and explore the surroundings of the venue. You need to get creative sometimes. I'm not creative I just like to shop.

Adneris: Haha shopping is addicting. Out of all the places you've been on tour where would you say has the best food?

Nick: I'd say I get the fattest in California. Between In 'n Out burger and Del Taco, I have no shot at eating well.

Adneris: How did you fall into playing with bayside?

Nick: I actually worked with Anthony at Urban Outfitters. I was his boss. He came back from a tour with Fall Out Boy and half the band quit, so I started playing bass.

Adneris: How would you describe "Bayside" to someone whose never listened to you guys before?

Nick: Hmmm usually when joe shmoe on the street asks what kind of band we are, I say "alternative", just to quickly move on. I really couldn't tell you what we sound like, I don't hear one main bands influence on our songs. The Smoking Popes if I had to name one.

Adneris: Had you ever heard about godsgirls before this interview?

Nick: I have heard of godsgirls.com before, but know little about it.

Adneris: Well we pretty much rule so get into it lol. How do you feel about naked tattooed chicks?

Nick: Well I guess I'll try to get into it. That was meant to sound sarcastic

Adneris: Ha I know. What's your life like being on the road in a band?

Nick: It's a lot of waiting around. Basically you only play for about 45-60 mins a night, everything else is whatever you make of it. A lot of waiting, walking, shopping, and joking around. I really like hanging around after we play and meet kids. That takes up some time.

Adneris: That's really awesome, not a lot of bands do that these days.

Nick: Well they have their heads up their asses!

Adneris: I might go to warped, maybe I'll see you there?

Nick: I love warped!!! I can't wait, its my first time ever on the tour. I'm sure its gonna be a good hang, and my favorite band ever is playing, Bad Religion. I can't wait, its a dream come true.

Adneris: I'm not gonna lie, I don't wanna sound cheesy but... seeing you guys was something I had been looking forward to for a while.

Nick: Was it your first time?

Adneris: Yeah.

Nick: I hope it was ok. I had a good time, I always do. My favorite part of all this is playing every night.

Adneris: Are you excited to play Bamboozle festival?

Nick: Yeah last year was pretty cool, I'm interested to see what its like this year, we have a little bit more of a headlining slot this year, and I hear we are playing before Muse, which is crazy.

Adneris: How was it like adjusting to a new drummer?

Nick: Being that he is an amazing dude and an amazing drummer, it hasn't been too hard. It's actually been really easy. He is a perfect fit.

Nick: We are really lucky to not have fallen to far off the path

Adneris: Do you ever have people tell you that bayside's music has gotten them through rough times? And how does that make you feel?

Nick: Yes all the time I hear that. It's a great feeling because I feel the same way about my favorite bands. So it's amazing people feel that way about us.
